work - body, process, materiality
"Art for me, is thinking with my hands"
Louisa Marie Roßner (*1989) began to study in 2008, before three years later taking her steps in sculpture. Even in her first pictures and paintings, one can see attempt to paint sculpturally. The pictorial representation of a form is an intermediate step towards sculpture. The latter appears to be imprisoned in painting, as a work is only finished once it feels the way Roßner is conceives of it in her mind. Her masterful use of materials such as clay, steel, or concrete makes her passion for crafts palpable in her work: gripping, dotting, welding, baking, carrying and supporting, creating counterweights and also taking certain risk. The implementation of her ideas into a form and a haptic result in simple, descriptive objects. The reception of her work contains the reception of the work process. Both the object and the idea attached to it are communicated outwards. Just as the body is used to create a piece of art, the observer can use his or her body to experience the work beyond the confines of just looking.
No concrete function - like that of an everyday object - is necessary here. When a material is shaped into a form that describes itself, or even suggests a function, the work starts to become literal. It is not the feel of pure materiality, of its haptic and form, that is most important here; rather, it is the ideas and processes contained within the sculptures.
